Zambia, China Seek to Deepen Financial Cooperation, Focus on RMB Use
Chargé d’Affaires Wang Sheng of China met with Hon. Situmbeko Musokotwane, Zambia’s Minister of Finance and National Planning, to discuss ways to strengthen practical cooperation in the financial sector.
During the meeting, Mr Wang conveyed New Year greetings and commended Minister Musokotwane for advancing the use of the Chinese renminbi (RMB) for tax payments in Zambia.
He described this initiative as a landmark step in the internationalisation of the RMB and a significant milestone in Zambia–China financial collaboration.
The two sides also explored opportunities to deepen cooperation in cross-border investment, project financing, and financial support for key development projects, aiming to enhance bilateral relations and promote mutual growth.
Minister Musokotwane expressed appreciation for China’s long-standing support across various sectors and reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to strengthening financial dialogue, implementing agreements reached by the two heads of state, and improving the investment climate to ensure shared benefits and sustainable development.
