KCM Launches “Manja Pamodzi Na 18,000KT” Campaign to Boost Copper Production
Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) has launched the “Manja Pamodzi Na 18,000KT” campaign, an initiative aimed at promoting safe, sustainable and collaborative copper production across all its operations.
The campaign was unveiled during the Best Slogan Award Presentation Ceremony held at KCM’s Corporate Office in Chingola. Speaking at the event, Director Mining Mr Praveen Sharma said the development of an effective slogan is a strategic process, as it serves as a motivational tool that inspires performance and reinforces shared responsibility among employees and business partners.
Mr Sharma said the campaign aligns with the Presidential directive to increase Zambia’s copper production to three million tonnes by 2030. In response, KCM has committed to contributing 300,000 metric tonnes towards the national target.
He explained that the 18,000KT monthly production goal will be achieved through combined output of 10,000KT from Konkola, 6,000KT from the Tailings Leach Plant (TLP), and 2,000KT from Nchanga. He stressed that reaching the target will require a collective effort from both KCM employees and its business partners.
Mr Sharma expressed confidence that the slogan competition and awards ceremony would strengthen commitment to the production target, adding that every individual has a role to play in delivering results through diligence and teamwork.
Speaking at the same event, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Dr John Kunda commended the participants for their creativity and dedication. He emphasised the importance of maintaining a results-driven and ethical work culture, noting that KCM is focused on producing copper safely in support of national development.
Dr Kunda reaffirmed the company’s commitment to achieving 300,000 metric tonnes annually, explaining that KCM is currently targeting 10,000KT per month, with plans to increase production to 13,000KT and eventually 18,000KT. He said unity, collaboration and responsible conduct would be critical to achieving these milestones.
Meanwhile, competition winner Wallace Mbozi thanked KCM management for recognising his slogan, “Manja Pamodzi Na 18,000KT,” which translates to “By joining hands together, we can achieve 18,000KT.”
The competition attracted more than 50 entries, with three participants receiving awards. Kawanga Sydney won third prize of K10,000, Foloshi Pride received K15,000 for second place, while Wallace Mbozi took first prize, winning a Samsung Galaxy S25 valued at K35,000.
