Zambian Peacekeeper Dies Serving in Central African Republic

The Ministry of Defence has announced with deep sorrow the passing of Staff Sergeant Alick Banda of the Zambia Army, who died while serving with the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

The Government has informed the next of kin, and the mortal remains of Sergeant Banda are expected to arrive in Zambia at 20:00 hours tonight ahead of burial arrangements.

Staff Sergeant Banda made the ultimate sacrifice in the pursuit of peace, exemplifying the highest standards of the Zambia Defence Force and bringing honour to the nation.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Maambo B. Haamaundu, extended condolences to the family, stating: “Your grief is our grief. Your loss is felt in every corner of this land. Sergeant Banda’s service is a testament to the courage and commitment of all Zambian men and women serving both at home and abroad.”

He further prayed that the departed be granted eternal rest and that his family find comfort in the embrace of a grateful nation.
