Zambia Revises Road Tolls for Selected Vehicle Classes from January 2026
The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development has approved revised road toll fees for selected vehicle classes, effective 1 January 2026, in line with revenue projections set out in the 2026 National Budget.
The adjustments are provided for under Statutory Instruments No. 100, 101 and 102 of 2025, which have been published in the Government Gazette. The revised tolls will apply at all toll gates operated by the National Road Fund Agency (NRFA), including the three toll gates on the Lusaka–Ndola Road managed under concession by MOIC-LN Consortium Limited.
The revision will only affect medium heavy vehicles, heavy vehicles and abnormal load vehicles. Tolls for small vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tonnes, including cars, vans and minibuses of up to 16 seats, will remain unchanged at K20 per passage.
Light vehicles with two axles, including minibuses weighing more than 3.5 tonnes up to 6.5 tonnes with 17 to 30 seats, will continue to pay K40, while buses with more than 30 seats will still be charged K50 per passage.
Under the new tariff structure, medium heavy vehicles weighing more than 6.5 tonnes with two to four axles will pay K200 per passage, while heavy vehicles with four or more axles will be charged K300. Abnormal load vehicles will attract a toll fee of K3,000.
Different rates will apply at the Michael Chilufya Sata Toll Gate on the Ndola–Kitwe dual carriageway. At this toll gate, medium heavy vehicles with more than 6.5 tonnes and two to four axles will pay K400, heavy vehicles with four or more axles will pay K600, and abnormal load vehicles will be charged K1,000.
The NRFA has advised road users to familiarise themselves with the revised toll structure ahead of its implementation and has encouraged motorists to contact its public relations unit for further information.
