KCM and FNB Launch Employee Solar Kit Programme

Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) and First National Bank (FNB) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to provide solar kits for KCM employees, aiming to address the ongoing energy crisis affecting households across the country.

The initiative will not only benefit employees but also empower local technicians and installers through skills development and business opportunities.

Speaking at the signing ceremony at KCM’s corporate office in Chingola, Acting Chief Executive Officer, Malcolm Mewett, praised FNB for joining the initiative. He highlighted that the partnership extends beyond discounted solar panels to create a positive ripple effect for local communities.

“As a mining company, our goal is to produce copper and contribute to the national target of three million metric tonnes by 2031, while supporting our employees through solar installation,” Mr Mewett said.

He emphasised the social impact of the project, noting, “I think about children who are supposed to study at night. Our employees have families, and it is gratifying to seal this deal which will have a huge impact in the community.”

FNB Retail Director, Mwamba Musambo, described the collaboration as a meaningful partnership that goes beyond providing solar panels.

“Our bank is ready to offer sound financial guidance to employees at no cost,” she said, adding that the programme represents a life-changing opportunity for KCM staff.
