New Airport TotalEnergies Station Launched

The Government has applauded the strengthening of public-private cooperation in the aviation sector following the commissioning of a new TotalEnergies service station along Airport Road in Lusaka.

Minister of Transport and Logistics, Honourable Frank Museba Tayali, said the collaboration between Zambia Airports Corporation Limited (ZACL) and TotalEnergies aligns with the New Dawn Administration’s ambition to build a modern, efficient and fully integrated transport system.

He noted that Government continues to support major investments in aviation and its enabling infrastructure, ensuring Zambia’s airports meet international standards and positioning Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) as a future aviation hub for the SADC region.

“I am particularly encouraged that this partnership is not limited to today’s project, but includes the supply of aviation fuel across all airports in Zambia. Strengthening such partnerships is essential as we work towards creating a more competitive and efficient aviation sector,” he said.

The Minister added that initiatives of this nature will help enhance operational capacity, reduce the cost of aviation fuel, and benefit the broader transport and logistics ecosystem. He emphasised that achieving a world-class aviation sector requires more than modern terminals, and depends heavily on coordinated planning and meaningful private sector participation.

Mr Tayali described the commissioning as more than the opening of a new facility, calling it a demonstration of the developmental progress that can be achieved when Government and the private sector collaborate with shared purpose.

“We encourage responsible private sector participation in initiatives that enhance accessibility, create jobs, broaden revenue streams and complement public infrastructure. Facilities within airport precincts are strategic economic assets that strengthen Zambia’s regional connectivity and logistics capacity,” he said.

ZACL Managing Director, Mr Urvesh Desai, underscored the corporation’s priority of strengthening long-term financial sustainability. He highlighted the growing importance of non-aeronautical revenue globally, noting that mixed-use developments and strategic partnerships are central to modern airport business models.

“The commissioning of the TotalEnergies Filling Station is a concrete step towards transforming the KKIA zone into a dynamic commercial hub. It marks a milestone that reflects the power of collaboration and shared ambition,” he said.

TotalEnergies Managing Director, Ms Salamata Ball, said the new service station represents the company’s vision of delivering an elevated customer experience across its network. She described the facility as a modern, multi-service station equipped with convenience stores, digital services and solar-powered solutions.

“At TotalEnergies, every visit should be more than a stop; it should offer comfort, convenience and innovation. Our 75-year presence in Zambia is built on commitment to the communities we serve, and this station reflects that commitment,” she said.

The newly commissioned service station is the first development under the Airport Land-Use Plan and is expected to support the broader transformation of the KKIA area into a fully integrated commercial zone.
