Canada Engages Zambia on Haiti Security Mission Support

Officials from the Canadian High Commission have met with the Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Hon. Jack Mwiimbu, to discuss Zambia’s possible deployment of police officers to support the United Nations security mission in Haiti.

Counsellor Consul Ms Corry Van Gaal paid a courtesy call on the Minister earlier today, seeking clarity on Zambia’s readiness to contribute personnel, including specialists who may serve under the Gang Suppression Force. The engagement comes as the UN continues to mobilise Member States to help stabilise the Caribbean nation.

During the meeting, Hon. Mwiimbu reaffirmed Zambia’s willingness to assist, noting that the country remains committed to global peace and security obligations.

“Once all formal requirements are fulfilled, the Zambia Police Service will be prepared to contribute officers to the mission in Haiti. We believe that instability anywhere is instability everywhere,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude for Canada’s continued support in strengthening Zambia’s policing capacity, adding that such partnerships are vital as the country prepares for potential international assignments.

“We appreciate Canada’s cooperation and look forward to deepening collaboration as discussions progress,” Hon. Mwiimbu said.
