Diaspora Urged to Invest in Zambia’s Development

Zambia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Her Excellency Macenje Mazoka, has reaffirmed the critical role of the Zambian diaspora in driving investment, enterprise and national development.

Speaking during a Christmas gathering organised by the Zambia Overseas Christian Fellowship (ZOCF) at the Revival Christian Church of God in Enfield on Saturday evening, Ms Mazoka said Zambia is steadily positioning itself as an attractive investment destination, with expanding opportunities in agriculture, mining, energy, manufacturing, tourism and services.

She described the diaspora as “vital partners” who contribute not only through remittances but also by bringing skills, ideas and global networks that can support job creation and improve livelihoods back home.

Ms Mazoka assured attendees that the Government is working with key partners to strengthen governance, enhance transparency and foster a conducive environment where both domestic and foreign investment can thrive and support inclusive growth.

“You have the potential to make a meaningful impact through your talents, resources and initiatives,” she said, encouraging Zambians abroad to seize opportunities for investment and community development.

She urged them to value and uphold Zambia’s longstanding legacy of peace and unity, calling it the foundation of the country’s democracy, social cohesion and economic aspirations.

“Peace is precious but fragile. Without it, our ambitions for growth and stronger institutions cannot be realised,” she cautioned. “As we celebrate tonight, I challenge each one of you to recommit to being ambassadors of peace in your families, communities and public discourse.”

Ms Mazoka attended the event with First Secretary (Immigration) Mr Morgan Mulilo and First Secretary (Consular) Ms Cecilia Mwale.

ZOCF chairman Dr Lackson Mzizi emphasised the importance of community, noting that connected societies tend to experience better physical, mental and social wellbeing.

However, he also warned of the risks associated with negative behaviour such as gossip and other vices that undermine community strength.

The Revival Christian Church of God is led by Pastor Nick Chanda.
