Zambia and Zimbabwe Unite to Boost Victoria Falls Tourism
Zambia and Zimbabwe have renewed their commitment to working together to unlock the full economic and tourism potential of Victoria Falls, one of the world’s most iconic natural wonders.
Officials from both nations met in Livingstone to advance discussions on a joint action plan aimed at deepening cooperation and enhancing shared benefits.
The meeting builds on progress made during the March 2024 engagement in Victoria Falls, where Ministers of Tourism reaffirmed their collective vision to optimise the region’s natural and cultural assets for sustainable growth.
After touring World Bank Group-supported tourism initiatives, Zambia’s Minister of Tourism, Honourable Rodney Sikumba, stated that the latest deliberations mark an important step in strengthening bilateral ties and promoting coordinated tourism development.
He emphasised that Zambia and Zimbabwe share interconnected resources and tourism products, making collaboration essential for maximising regional competitiveness.
“Our intent is to work together to co-develop mutually beneficial tourism, trade, and national park solutions that support the sustainable growth and prosperity of our region,” Honourable Sikumba said.
He added that both countries would explore avenues for establishing a 24-hour economy in the tourism hubs of Livingstone and Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe). This initiative is expected to stimulate investment, improve visitor experiences and create more opportunities for local communities.
Honourable Sikumba also expressed gratitude to the World Bank Group for its ongoing role in facilitating high-level engagements between the neighbouring nations.
World Bank Group Division Director for Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe, Mr Nathan Belete, reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to helping the two countries fully realise the economic potential of Victoria Falls.
“The World Bank is proud to support this collaboration through the Zambia Tourism Growth Project and its contribution to economic development,” Mr Belete said.
He reiterated the Bank’s dedication to promoting trade facilitation and elevating both Zambia and Zimbabwe as leading global tourism destinations.
