ZCSA Urges Manufacturers to Strengthen Collaboration for Product Safety
The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has called on local manufacturers to work closely with the agency to promote product compliance and ensure consumer safety.
Speaking during a visit to Crown Millers Limited on 17 November, ZCSA Executive Director Gerald Chizinga emphasised the importance of collaboration between regulators and manufacturers to uphold safety standards.
“As Crown Millers, you have a new milling plant and therefore we decided to visit you and assure you of our continued support. Our role, as a regulator, is to enforce mandatory standards, but it is also in your interest to produce safe products,” Mr Chizinga said.
The visit formed part of ZCSA’s periodic management visits to assess operations of companies producing goods under compulsory standards. Mr Chizinga noted that Crown Millers is performing well in complying with prescribed safety and quality standards.
Crown Millers Managing Director Muhammad Shabbir Patel welcomed the agency’s support, highlighting the critical role of standards in ensuring that food products such as mealie meal and wheat flour, which are consumed daily, are safe for the public.
ZCSA, a statutory body under the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry, was established under the Compulsory Standards Act No.3 of 2017. The agency’s mandate is to administer and maintain compulsory standards to safeguard public health, consumer interests, and environmental protection.
