Zambia’s Trade Significance, Securing Slightly Over US$47 Million in Deals in the DRC
The recent announcement by the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) that Zambian companies have secured trade deals worth slightly over US$47 million during the recent trade mission to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) marks as a key and major milestone achievement for Zambia’s economic and industrial growth.
This achievement deeply reflects the growing capacity and competitiveness of Zambian enterprises across key sectors such as agriculture, food processing, manufacturing, leather products and consultancy services.
It further demonstrates that local businesses are increasingly able to tap into regional markets and respond effectively to the glowing and appetizing demands sitting beyond our borders.
The DRC remains one of the largest and fastest-growing markets in the region. By securing these commercial agreements, Zambia not only expands its export footprint but also strengthens foreign exchange earnings, improves its trade balance and creates new job opportunities across various industries.
Importantly, these deals will contribute to the deeper regional trade integration systems. They reinforce Zambia’s position within COMESA, SADC, and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) by promoting intra-African trade and building stronger economic linkages with neighbouring countries.
However, such engagements will also enhance supply chain connectivity, open investment pathways and foster long-term commercial partnerships.
Overall, this development represents a positive step in positioning Zambia as a key player in regional economic cooperation and a reliable supplier of quality goods and services within the African market.
