MTN and Microsoft Partner to Unlock Africa’s Digital Potential Through AI

Africa’s leading mobile operator, MTN Group, has announced a landmark partnership with global technology leader Microsoft to expand access to artificial intelligence–powered learning and productivity tools across the continent.

The initiative, unveiled in celebration of MTN reaching 300 million customers, aims to empower more Africans to participate meaningfully in the digital economy through Microsoft 365 Copilot — an advanced AI assistant built to boost creativity, streamline daily tasks, and make technology more inclusive.

Alongside enhanced productivity features, the offering integrates Microsoft’s trusted security protections, including safeguards against phishing, data loss, and emerging cyber threats, backed by continuous device monitoring.

“Africa’s growth will increasingly be shaped by how effectively its people can participate in the digital economy. As the world’s youngest continent, with the largest working population projected by 2040, strengthening AI skills will be vital,” said MTN Group President and CEO Ralph Mupita.

“Our partnership with Microsoft reinforces this direction. Together, we are creating tools that open new pathways for innovation and opportunity, shaping Africa’s next phase of progress.”

Blending MTN’s extensive reach and local market insight with Microsoft’s global technological expertise, the collaboration underscores a shared ambition to bridge digital divides and support the transition from basic connectivity to active digital participation.

“This partnership reflects our commitment to help people learn, create and contribute meaningfully to the digital economy,” said Samer Abu-Ltaif, President for Microsoft Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

“By bringing Copilot to millions of MTN customers, we are unlocking new opportunities for learning and innovation across the continent.”

The rollout is expected to begin in selected MTN markets in early 2026. The initiative will complement MTN’s broader strategy to integrate artificial intelligence across its operations, focusing on practical applications that enhance learning, accessibility, and digital participation.

It also aligns with the company’s commitment to building responsible technology partnerships that foster sustainable growth and shared value across Africa.
