€2m Backing to Drive Clean Cooking Solutions in Zambia
The Modern Cooking Facility for Africa (MCFA) has signed a new partnership with Ener-G-Africa Zambia Limited, marking a significant step towards expanding access to affordable and sustainable clean cooking solutions across the country. The agreement will support the company’s entry and scale-up in Zambia’s urban and peri-urban markets.
Ener-G-Africa Zambia, part of the Bridge Carbon Group and registered in 2024, builds on the Group’s long-standing experience in manufacturing clean cooking and renewable energy products across Sub-Saharan Africa since 2017.
The company will receive EUR 2 million from MCFA to establish pellet production facilities in Lusaka, using agricultural waste typically burned as refuse. This initiative is expected to reduce environmental impact while ensuring a reliable supply of clean biomass fuel.
The company also plans to open 40 retail stores across the country. These outlets will sell clean cooking stoves, biomass pellets and other renewable energy products, and will function as training hubs for product demonstrations and customer support.
“This partnership with Nefco and MCFA marks a major step forward for Ener-G-Africa Zambia’s operations and growth path. The company will not only manufacture high-quality stoves locally but also establish a sustainable biomass fuel supply chain and retail network to ensure long-term access and affordability. It’s about creating new jobs and proving that clean energy solutions can be made in Africa, by Africans, for Africa,” said Andre Moolman, Director at Ener-G-Africa Zambia.
With MCFA funding, Ener-G-Africa aims to deliver up to 40,000 clean cooking services by the end of 2029. These will be offered through sales of single- and double-burner top-lit micro-gasification stoves. Each stove will include a 10,000 mAh power bank and a 20 Wp solar panel, with the double-burner model featuring dual combustion chambers powered by a single panel and battery—allowing households to prepare multiple meals simultaneously.
Ener-G-Africa Zambia was selected under the second funding round of the Zambian MCFA programme. The assessment process included third-party reviews by independent experts and detailed due diligence led by Danish Energy Management in partnership with LFS Advisory.
The investment supports Zambia’s broader clean energy ambitions while strengthening local manufacturing, creating jobs and improving household access to affordable, modern cooking technologies.
