Zambia Positions Arts as a Tool for Regional Cooperation at ACCES 2025
Zambia has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening diplomacy, regional cooperation, and economic growth through collaboration in the arts, as African countries gather for the 8th edition of the Music in Africa Conference for Collaborations, Exchange and Showcases (ACCES) in Tshwane, South Africa.
Speaking ahead of the conference, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Art, Mr Chama Fumba, emphasised that music and the creative sector are increasingly becoming catalysts for economic expansion, social cohesion, and cultural diplomacy across the continent.
“Music and the arts connect nations to culture and socioeconomic development,” Mr Fumba said. “When artistes collaborate across borders, they not only promote cultural exchange but also help strengthen diplomatic relations and regional partnerships.”
He added that Zambia is intensifying efforts to transform the arts from a predominantly social activity into a formal sector with potential to drive job creation, innovation, and national development.
Mr Fumba noted that international platforms such as ACCES expose Zambian creatives to modern approaches in music rights management, online streaming, content monetisation, and technology-driven production—areas where African countries are rapidly advancing.
“Zambia stands to benefit greatly from networking, learning, and partnerships formed through this event. The creative industry has enormous potential and government remains committed to supporting it,” he said.
