Cassava, STANLIB in Deal to Expand South Africa’s Data Centres

Cassava Technologies, a pan-African technology group, has announced a strategic investment from STANLIB Infrastructure Investments to fast-track the expansion of Africa Data Centres’ (ADC) footprint in South Africa.

The partnership will support the development of next-generation, AI-ready data centre infrastructure, enabling ADC to scale operations at its Johannesburg and Cape Town campuses in response to soaring demand for cloud services and digital connectivity.

Hardy Pemhiwa, President and Group CEO of Cassava Technologies, said the investment reinforces confidence in the company’s South African operations.

“Partnering with STANLIB strengthens our South African operations and validates the robust foundation we’ve built. It provides us the scale required to serve major hyperscalers and enterprises as they rapidly increase their demand for secure, high-capacity connectivity and cloud services across the region,” he said.

STANLIB Infrastructure Investments Co-Head, Andy Louw, said the data centre sector represents critical infrastructure for the digital economy.

“We are proud to partner with Africa Data Centres, a leader in Africa’s digital evolution. Data centres are critical infrastructure for the modern economy, and our investment will strengthen South Africa’s digital backbone. It aligns with our desire to be an economic enabler for the South African economy by deploying capital that drives growth while giving institutional investors differentiated access to a unique asset class,” he said.

Africa Data Centres operates seven modern data centres across the continent, serving more than 400 enterprise and hyperscale clients. The new investment is expected to boost capacity, enhance digital resilience and position South Africa as a leading regional technology hub.
