President Hichilema Hails UCZ’s 60 Years of Faith and Service
President Hakainde Hichilema has commended the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) for six decades of dedicated service to God and the nation, describing the Church as a vital partner in Zambia’s moral, educational, and social development.
Speaking during the UCZ’s 60th Anniversary celebrations at the Railways Grounds in Kabwe, President Hichilema congratulated the Church’s leadership and clergy for their steadfast unity, visionary guidance, and commitment to uplifting communities across the country.
“Since its formation on 16th January 1965, the UCZ has remained a pillar of strength, educating the young, healing the sick, and providing moral guidance in times of change and challenge,” President Hichilema said.
He praised the Church’s mission schools and hospitals for nurturing generations of leaders and restoring hope and dignity to countless Zambians. The President also emphasised the importance of collaboration between the Government and the Church, noting that their relationship should be viewed as complementary, not competitive.
“Our contributions to the Church are not acts of favour, but investments in our shared vision of national development, unity, and spiritual growth,” he stated.
President Hichilema concluded by urging the UCZ to continue being a beacon of faith and a force for peace as it enters its next chapter.
The United Church of Zambia, established in 1965, is one of the country’s largest Christian denominations and has played a pivotal role in education, healthcare, and community development throughout Zambia.
