Ministry of Technology and Science Celebrates Zambia’s 61st Independence with a Call for Unity, Innovation, and Compassion

The Ministry of Technology and Science joined the nation in celebrating Zambia’s 61st Independence Anniversary under the theme “Building a Resilient and Prosperous Zambia”. The Ministry held a vibrant pre-celebration on 23rd October 2025, highlighting the country’s unity, cultural pride, and technological progress.

The event, held at the Ministry premises, brought together staff members dressed in colourful traditional attire and featured activities such as traditional meals, music, and cake sharing. It served as a moment of reflection on Zambia’s journey of independence, innovation, and national progress.

Delivering his remarks, Hon. Felix Mutati, Minister of Technology and Science, commended staff for their enthusiasm and cultural pride. He linked the significance of Independence to the Ministry’s commitment to driving development through technology and innovation, citing the Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority’s (ZICTA) project in Chongwe, where agricultural officers now use tablets to diagnose plant diseases instantly.

“Resilience means finding solutions as close to the problem as possible. Technology doesn’t just enable prosperity—it creates it,” Hon. Mutati stated. He urged staff to recognise the value of their individual contributions, from drivers to directors, and to celebrate independence with gratitude, compassion, and unity.

In his address, Eng. Dr. Brilliant Habeenzu, Permanent Secretary, emphasised the importance of maintaining a peaceful and inclusive workplace. He encouraged regular informal interactions among staff to foster empathy and understanding, reminding them that behind every professional role is a person facing unique challenges.

“Unity does not mean uniformity. When we celebrate diversity, we build strength,” he said, stressing that teamwork and mutual respect are vital for institutional success.

Mr. George Matulula, Acting Director of Human Resource and Administration, opened the ceremony by underlining the event’s role in promoting team building and commemorating Zambia’s independence with purpose.

He also led a moment of silence in honour of staff members who had passed away, urging colleagues to carry forward their legacy of dedication and service.

“Team building doesn’t happen by chance, it’s built through trust, communication, and shared experiences,” he said.

During the event, the Ministry’s Human Resource and Administration Department recognised staff who had completed professional development programmes, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to capacity building and excellence.
