Fit for the Runway: Emirates Unveils the Evolution of Its Iconic Cabin Crew Uniform

Emirates has unveiled the fascinating evolution of its iconic cabin crew uniform, celebrating 40 years of timeless style and sophistication that reflects the airline’s global prestige and commitment to excellence.

Since its debut in 1985, the Emirates uniform has become one of the most recognisable symbols in aviation, embodying elegance, cultural heritage, and the airline’s signature fly better experience.

With each redesign, Emirates has preserved its distinctive beige and red palette while embracing innovation, comfort, and practicality.

Designed to remain classic rather than trendy, the uniform has evolved through subtle refinements from its original sun-dune beige jackets with red piping in 1985 to the sleek, tailored pinstripes introduced in 2008.

These changes have balanced tradition with modernity, ensuring Emirates’ 25,000-strong cabin crew remain impeccable ambassadors of the brand.

Notably, the current design, enhanced in 2023, offers crew members a personal touch with 15 Spanish-crafted leather shoe styles and matching red handbags and belts, perfectly complementing the signature pleated skirt and iconic hat.

The uniform’s nano-coated fabrics provide durability, stain and crease resistance, and comfort during long-haul flights, reflecting Emirates’ focus on both style and functionality.

From Paco Rabanne’s design influence in 1997 to the airline’s in-house tailoring expertise today, Emirates continues to redefine what it means to be fit for the runway, turning every flight into a showcase of professionalism, cultural pride, and world-class service.
