Zambia Celebrates International Chefs Day 2025 Under the Theme “Food Explorers”

Zambia proudly joined the global community in celebrating International Chefs Day 2025 under the inspiring theme “Food Explorers.” The event honoured the creativity, skill, and dedication of the men and women whose culinary artistry defines Zambia’s rich gastronomic identity.

Chefs were recognised as central figures in the nation’s hospitality and tourism industry, professionals who transform local ingredients into memorable dining experiences that reflect the heart of Zambian culture.

Delivering a speech on behalf of the Minister of Tourism, Honourable Rodney Sikumba, the Director of Culture, Ms Betty Chelemu, highlighted that Chefs Day serves as a reminder that chefs are not merely cooks but innovators, educators, and cultural ambassadors.

“Through their creativity, chefs continuously explore, create, and share new flavours that enrich Zambia’s tourism offering. Every dish tells a story of heritage, innovation, and pride in our culture,” she said.

Honourable Sikumba reaffirmed the government’s commitment to positioning chefs at the centre of Zambia’s Tourism Development Agenda, noting that culinary tourism remains a key pillar in the Tourism Master Plan (2022–2038).

He further emphasised that Zambia’s culinary excellence enhances the nation’s global image, complementing its renowned wildlife and scenic landscapes. “Our chefs are helping transform Zambia into a destination equally celebrated for its vibrant cuisine,” he remarked.

The Minister also commended the Zambia Chefs Association for its dedication to professionalising the sector, promoting culinary excellence, and contributing to the growth of the hospitality industry. He acknowledged the Association’s efforts to introduce a Zambia Chefs Association Bill, assuring that the Ministry is reviewing the proposal in line with the Tourism and Hospitality Act.

In closing, Honourable Sikumba paid tribute to chefs nationwide for their invaluable contributions to tourism and economic growth. “Your work supports our vision for sustainable tourism, local sourcing, and inclusive participation. You are the unsung heroes of Zambia’s tourism story, turning every meal into a masterpiece and every visitor into an ambassador of Zambian hospitality.”
