Unity and Solidarity in Focus as Zambia Participates in NAM Midterm Meeting
The Republic of Zambia is actively participating in the 19th Midterm Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), which officially opened in Kampala, Uganda. Zambia’s engagement highlights its longstanding commitment as a founding voice of the NAM and aligns with the country’s strategic foreign policy priorities.
The meeting, convened under the theme “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence,” runs from 13th to 16th October 2025. It provides a strategic platform to advance Zambia’s core foreign policy principles, including national sovereignty and multilateralism.
The Midterm Meeting began with the Senior Officials’ Meeting from 13th to 14th October. This segment will culminate in the endorsement of the Kampala Final Document by two committees, the Political Committee and the Economic and Social Affairs Committee, which will subsequently be presented to the Ministerial Meeting scheduled for 15th to 16th October.
H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda and Chair of the NAM Summit, is expected to deliver a keynote address during the Ministerial segment.
Leading the Zambian delegation is Ms Margaret N. Miyoba, Permanent Secretary to the Administration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. She is accompanied by Ms Stenah Shampile, Zambia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, and Mr Anthony Bwalya, Deputy High Commissioner of Zambia to Tanzania, alongside other government officials.
The meeting was officially opened by H.E. General Jeje Odongo, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uganda and Chair of the NAM Coordinating Bureau, who welcomed foreign ministers and delegates from NAM member states, observer countries, and organisations.
The Midterm Meeting will review progress in implementing outcomes of the 19th NAM Summit, hosted by Uganda in January 2024, and outline key priorities for the movement in addressing pressing global challenges.
The meeting is expected to conclude with the adoption of key documents, including the Kampala Final Outcome Document and the Kampala Declaration. Ministers will also adopt the Declaration on Palestine, following consultations of the NAM Committee on Palestine, held on the margins of the Ministerial Meeting.
