Huawei Technologies Zambia Company Limited has joined key stakeholders at the inaugural Higher Education Indaba, urging increased investment in quality higher education as a catalyst for Zambia’s socio-economic transformation.
Speaking on behalf of Huawei Managing Director, Mr. Dylan Liu, the company’s Director of Communication and Public Affairs, Mr. Louis Mwape, reaffirmed Huawei’s dedication to advancing education through innovation, technology, and partnerships.
“Education remains the cornerstone of sustainable growth and national development, especially in an era where technology and innovation drive global progress,” Mr. Mwape said. “Investing in higher education is not merely desirable but essential to building a skilled and competitive workforce capable of steering Zambia’s socio-economic transformation.”
Mr. Mwape made the remarks during the opening day of the Higher Education Authority’s (HEA) first-ever Higher Education Indaba, taking place from 8th to 10th October 2025 at the Avani Victoria Falls Resort in Livingstone. The event is being held under the theme “Unlocking Zambia’s Potential Through New Investments in Quality Higher Education.”
He also highlighted Huawei’s ongoing educational initiatives such as the Seeds for the Future programme and Smart Village projects in Namwala and Mumbwa Districts. These projects aim to bridge the digital divide and expand learning opportunities for students across both urban and rural communities.
Mr. Mwape further called for stronger collaboration between government, academia, and the private sector, noting that collective investment and the use of modern technology are essential to building inclusive and innovative learning environments for Zambia’s youth.
The Indaba has brought together policymakers, educators, industry players, and development partners to explore strategies for enhancing the quality, relevance, and accessibility of higher education in Zambia.
