Tourism Minister Calls for Stronger Private Sector Engagement to Boost Economic Growth

Minister of Tourism Hon. Rodney Sikumba has called on the private sector to take a more active role in developing Zambia’s tourism industry, stressing that collaboration is key to driving economic growth and resilience within the sector.

Speaking during a post-budget review meeting with private sector stakeholders, Hon. Sikumba reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to creating a conducive business environment by addressing challenges facing the tourism industry.

“This Government has established a feedback mechanism through the technical working group to tackle sector-based issues. We therefore expect your submissions to be addressed through this platform,” the Minister stated.

Hon. Sikumba further announced that the Ministry of Tourism will dedicate the final quarter of 2025 to holding consultative meetings and stakeholder engagements aimed at developing practical mechanisms to enhance the sector’s growth and competitiveness.

He encouraged private operators to utilise the Tourism Development Facility for recapitalisation and to seek recommendations for access to credit facilities that can help expand their businesses.

The Minister also urged players in the industry to build partnerships and linkages, noting that collaboration would reduce business risks and strengthen the overall value chain.

Looking ahead, Hon. Sikumba said the Ministry’s 2026 focus will centre on increasing tourism investment, developing human capital, and promoting Zambia’s tourism packages on the international stage.
