DHL Launches Exporters of the Year Awards to Recognise SMEs Across Sub-Saharan Africa
DHL Express has launched the inaugural Exporters of the Year Awards across Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), an initiative that seeks to recognise and celebrate the contribution of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to regional growth and international trade.
The awards form part of DHL’s GoTrade programme, which is designed to support SME development by addressing barriers such as access to training, finance, logistics and ICT. They also highlight DHL’s ongoing commitment to helping entrepreneurs expand into global markets.
Eligibility for the awards is open to SMEs registered in any Sub-Saharan African country. Businesses must employ 25 or fewer full-time staff, have traded goods across borders for at least 12 months, operate sustainably, and comply with international trade regulations.
Commenting on the initiative, Hennie Heymans, CEO of DHL Express Sub-Saharan Africa, said: “We know that SMEs are the backbone of societies and the driving force behind sustainable economic growth. Through these awards, we want to celebrate their achievements, showcase their work, and advocate for their sustainable participation in global markets.”
There will be three award categories: ESG Excellence Exporter Award, recognising sustainable and socially responsible practices; Women Exporter of the Year Award, honouring women entrepreneurs who excel in global trade; and Global Expansion Exporter Award, celebrating SMEs with significant international growth.
Winners will each receive €4,000 and will be honoured at a ceremony at DHL’s Innovation Centre in Dubai. The event will also provide opportunities for networking and knowledge exchange with DHL’s global experts and partners.
Entries are now open and will close on 30 October 2025. SMEs interested in participating can apply via the official awards page.
