Zambia and UK Strengthen Partnership on Human Development Initiatives
The Government of Zambia and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their commitment to closer collaboration on human development, with a strong focus on strengthening social protection systems to improve resilience and sustainability.
The pledge was made during a courtesy call by the Deputy British High Commissioner to Zambia, Mr Simon Ten Brinke-Jackson, on the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services Permanent Secretary, Ms Angela Kawandami.
Ms Kawandami expressed gratitude for Zambia’s recognition as a priority country for UK cooperation, underscoring government’s commitment to sustaining the partnership.
She highlighted key areas of joint work, including the development of a National Social Registry, whose concept note has been approved and is awaiting Cabinet endorsement.
She further emphasised Zambia’s intention to advance the “Cash Plus” initiative, particularly in light of support from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) during times of severe drought.
Mr Ten Brinke-Jackson, who also serves as Development Director to Zambia, praised government’s efforts to safeguard human dignity through inclusive development programmes.
He congratulated Community Development Minister, Ms Doreen Mwamba, on receiving international recognition for championing the rights of children in family-based care.
Reiterating the UK government’s commitment, he assured Zambia of Britain’s continued support as a reliable partner in the pursuit of comprehensive and sustainable human development.
