Czech Republic Injects €14M into Zambia’s Forest Sector
The Ministry of Green Economy and Environment and the Czech Republic have reaffirmed their commitment to advancing sustainable development, climate action, and environmental protection through strengthened bilateral cooperation.
The Czech Development Agency (CDA) is set to expand collaboration with the Ministry under the LEAF Project, a Team Europe initiative implemented within the Green Nexus framework. The project carries an approximate budget of €14 million and seeks to contribute to the EU–Zambia Forest Partnership goals.
Key objectives of the initiative include enhancing forest-linked value chains, particularly timber traceability, while supporting livelihoods and conservation efforts in forested and protected areas.
This was announced following a courtesy call on the Minister of Green Economy and Environment, Honourable Mike E. Mposha, MP, by the Czech Republic’s Ambassador to Zambia, His Excellency Jiri Kyrian.
During the meeting, both parties also discussed expanding cooperation in other critical sectors, including:
- Scaling up landscape restoration and afforestation;
- Promoting sustainable agriculture and climate-resilient food systems;
- Advancing nature-based tourism and ecotourism to benefit local communities;
- Driving green energy solutions, waste management, and biodiversity conservation.
Speaking at the meeting, Honourable Mposha said the partnership represents a tangible step towards fostering sustainable development and securing a resilient and prosperous future for both Zambia and the Czech Republic.
He was joined by Permanent Secretary Dr Douty Chibamba, alongside senior technical officials from the Ministry.
