Visa Launches Visa Pay to Boost Digital Payments in the Democratic Republic of Congo
Visa, a global leader in digital payments, has launched Visa Pay, a new interoperable mobile solution designed to expand access to digital payments and account-to-account money transfers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Available via the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, as well as through direct integration with banks’ mobile apps, Visa Pay enables both banked and unbanked consumers to pay, receive money, and move funds securely across participating financial institutions and mobile networks.
The service is initially being rolled out in partnership with Access Banque, FBN, Sofibanque, Solidaire Banque, and UBA, with BGFI, Equity Bank, and TMB expected to join soon. Transactions can be made in both Congolese francs (CDF) and US dollars, with users able to cash in and out at bank branches. Virtual card functionality will also support online payments.
Emphasising accessibility, affordability, and security, Visa Pay incorporates advanced fraud prevention and near real-time money transfers, addressing the country’s unique financial needs.
Sophie Kafuti, Visa’s General Manager for the DRC, said the launch marks a significant step towards deepening financial inclusion.
“We are excited to launch Visa Pay, an interoperable solution to scale digital payments in the country. The launch is part of our commitment to driving innovative solutions as a catalyst for greater financial inclusion, helping to provide broader access to the digital economy. Through Visa Pay, we aim to stimulate economic growth and to help establish the DRC as a regional leader in financial technology.”
