Zamstats Commences Training for 2025 Economic Establishment Census
The Zambia Statistics Agency (Zamstats) has begun training data collectors for the 2025 Economic Establishment Census (EEC), a comprehensive national exercise aimed at capturing the current state and structure of the Zambian economy.
The 10-day training programme, which started on 4 September and will run until 10 September, is being conducted simultaneously across all ten provincial centres of the country.
In Lusaka, the official opening was held today at the Lusaka Trades Training Institute, officiated by the Permanent Secretary for Lusaka Province, Mr Henry Sinyangwe. He congratulated the selected candidates and urged them to remain committed throughout the process.
A total of 1,366 participants have been recruited and distributed across the provinces as data collectors. Mr Sinyangwe said the training was of “paramount importance” as it would equip participants with the skills required to ensure the collection of accurate, high-quality data.
“This comprehensive national exercise is critical for capturing up-to-date data on the change, level and structure of the Zambian economy,” he stated.
The Permanent Secretary further explained that this is only the second time Zambia has undertaken such an exercise, the last census having been carried out in 2011–2012. The 2025 EEC will list all economic establishments, formal and informal, and serve as a cornerstone for evidence-based policy-making and economic planning.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to successfully conducting the census in line with the Statistics Act No. 13 of 2018 and appealed to businesses, cooperatives, institutions, and other stakeholders to cooperate fully with data collectors.
“The success of this important national exercise depends on your full support,” Mr Sinyangwe said.
