Zambian Breweries Welcomes Government Commitment to Industrial Growth
Zambian Breweries has welcomed the government’s pledge to implement growth-oriented policies and maintain fair taxation, emphasising the importance of fostering an enabling environment for local manufacturing.
The remarks follow a recent meeting at State House between President Hakainde Hichilema and the Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM), where the President highlighted how sustainable economic growth benefits businesses, investors, farmers, and the national treasury. He signalled a continued focus on policies designed to stimulate industrial development.
“I am not an advocate of high taxes. I am an advocate of growth. With reasonable taxation on local businesses, our economy expands, and the Treasury benefits accordingly,” President Hichilema said. “In my meeting with Zambian Breweries, it was clear that addressing their challenges will help businesses thrive and advance the government’s broader economic agenda, creating opportunities for all Zambians.”
Zambian Breweries welcomed the President’s comments as a clear demonstration of government support for industrial growth and business partnership. Represented at the meeting by Country Director Thais Cavinatto and Board Chairperson Monica Musonda, the company highlighted the role of a supportive business environment in driving sustainable development and economic prosperity.
“We were honoured to participate in this important dialogue,” said Ms Cavinatto. “The President’s focus on growth over high taxation resonates strongly with our mission. Sustainable development comes from creating opportunities for businesses to flourish, which in turn strengthens local supply chains, supports farmers, and boosts contributions to the national treasury. With a conducive environment, Zambian Breweries can expand production, innovate, and deliver greater value to both the economy and our consumers.”
Ms Musonda emphasised the wider implications of the engagement for investor confidence and Zambia’s industrialisation agenda. “This message provides certainty and reassurance for investors, manufacturers, and farmers across the value chain. It is encouraging to see the government prioritising practical solutions that enable businesses to grow while supporting national development objectives. We look forward to continuing constructive dialogue and collaboration to ensure Zambia’s manufacturing sector reaches its full potential.”
The company also reaffirmed its commitment to compliance with all regulatory and fiscal obligations, recognising the critical role of excise and tax contributions in supporting the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) and strengthening the national treasury. By ensuring accurate reporting, product traceability, and operational discipline, Zambian Breweries continues to contribute directly to government revenue while maintaining high standards for consumers and the wider economy.
