Energy Minister Warns Against Fuel Supply Disruptions During Copperbelt Tour

Minister of Energy, Mr Makozo Chikote, has urged management at Tazama Pipeline and Indeni Energy Company terminals to guarantee uninterrupted fuel supply, highlighting their critical role in sustaining Zambia’s economic growth.

During his tour of the facilities in Ndola, Mr Chikote emphasised the Government’s commitment to ensuring consistent delivery of essential services to the public.

He cautioned that individuals or organisations obstructing progress would face firm action, adding that management lapses resulting in shortages would not be tolerated.

Speaking earlier during a courtesy call at the Copperbelt Provincial Administration, the Minister noted that investments in solar energy were being accelerated nationwide as part of efforts to mitigate the current load-shedding.

He expressed confidence that the power supply situation would stabilise by the end of the year.

Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo, who accompanied the tour, pledged that his office would maintain close oversight of operations at Tazama Pipeline and Indeni Energy Company to promote efficiency and reliability in the fuel supply chain.

Also present was a delegation from the Energy Regulation Board (ERB), led by its Chairperson, Mr James Banda.

The Minister’s visit follows reports of fuel shortages at certain filling stations, despite assurances that the country holds adequate stocks. His remarks signal a clear directive for greater accountability and tighter supervision within Zambia’s energy sector.
