Gov’t Commends Cooperating Partners for Supporting Social Protection

The Minister of Community Development and Social Services, Ms Doreen Mwamba, has praised Zambia’s cooperating partners for their vital role in strengthening the country’s social protection agenda.

During a recent visit to Kalomo District in Southern Province, Ms Mwamba expressed gratitude to key partners, including the World Bank, the Swedish Government, the Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Switzerland, for their sustained support.

“I wish to acknowledge the support of our cooperating partners including the World Bank, Swedish Government, the Republic of Ireland, the UK, Germany and Switzerland for their continued investment in Zambia’s social protection agenda,” she said.

She noted that these collaborations have enabled the government to scale up initiatives such as the Social Cash Transfer and Supporting Women’s Livelihood programmes, which provide financial assistance and economic opportunities to vulnerable households.

Highlighting progress, the Minister said the Social Cash Transfer programme has expanded from just 169 households in Kalomo at its inception in 2003 to over 1.3 million households nationwide today.

Ms Mwamba reaffirmed government’s commitment to inclusive development and poverty reduction, stressing that sustained collaboration with cooperating partners remains key to building “a Zambia where no one is left behind.”
