ZARENA Opens New Offices and Signs Landmark MoU with UNZA
The Zambia Renewable Energy Association (ZARENA) has officially launched its new offices in Lusaka, marking a significant step in strengthening the country’s renewable energy sector.
The event, held in partnership with the Africa Solar Industry Association (AfSIA), also featured the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Zambia (UNZA).
Founded in 2017, ZARENA is a membership-based organisation that champions renewable energy through advocacy, capacity-building and stakeholder engagement.
The MoU with UNZA will focus on advancing training, research and innovation in the field, including the creation of a student chapter, the development of master’s programmes in renewable energy, and the hosting of an annual conference.
ZARENA Board Chairperson, Professor Joseph Mutale, described the launch as a milestone in the association’s journey. “The collaboration with UNZA will empower young people, researchers and innovators to actively participate in building Zambia’s clean energy future,” he said.
AfSIA representative, John Van Zuylen, praised the initiative, emphasising that networking and knowledge-sharing were critical to unlocking renewable energy potential across Africa.
The launch also served as a high-level networking platform, attracting government representatives, academics, private sector players and civil society actors. Participants explored opportunities for collaboration in Zambia’s transition to sustainable energy.
The event was hailed as a celebration of innovation and partnership, reflecting Zambia’s growing commitment to clean energy and climate resilience.
