Zambia to Host Three Major African Conferences in 2026
Zambia has secured the rights to host three leading continental conferences in May 2026, a development that cements the nation’s status as one of Africa’s premier destinations for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE).
The African Marketing Confederation Conference, the African ICT Conference, and the Africa Supply Chain Conference will all take place in Livingstone from 25th to 27th May 2026. More than 2,000 local, regional and international delegates are expected to attend the high-profile events.
The announcement, made in Ghana on 22nd August following a competitive bidding process against Botswana and Malawi, marks a major win for Zambia’s tourism and business sectors.
Tourism Minister Rodney Sikumba hailed the achievement as a milestone for the country’s MICE industry, which he described as central to Zambia’s economic diversification strategy.
“Tourism is central to our economic diversification agenda, and MICE tourism is one of the fastest-growing segments of the industry. It accounts for up to 80 per cent of hotel occupancy in Zambia and generates employment across hospitality, transport, technology, logistics, and the creative industries,” Mr Sikumba said during a ceremonial handover in Lusaka. “Securing this bid is a vote of confidence in Zambia’s capacity to host world-class events and positions our country as a hub for business, culture, and innovation in Africa.”
Zambia Institute of Marketing (ZIM) President, Mwewa Besa, emphasised the importance of collaboration in securing the successful bid. “This victory is not just for the professional associations involved, but for the entire nation. It demonstrates the strength of partnerships in advancing Zambia’s interests. Hosting these conferences will unlock new business opportunities for our members, foster regional collaboration, and showcase Zambia’s marketing, ICT and supply chain expertise on the continental stage,” he said.
Zambia Tourism Agency (ZTA) Chief Executive Officer, Matongo Matamwandi, reaffirmed Zambia’s growing reputation as a MICE destination. “MICE tourism is key to driving economic diversification, boosting international visibility, and attracting investment and trade. Following this successful bid, ZTA will continue to work with stakeholders to expand capacity, develop innovative products, and market Zambia globally as a leading MICE hub,” Mr Matamwandi stated.
The Ministry of Tourism commended the Zambia Institute of Marketing (ZIM), the Information and Communication Technology Association of Zambia (ICTAZ), the Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply (ZIPS), and the Zambia Tourism Agency (ZTA) for their collaboration and leadership in securing the bid.
