Zambia Leverages EdTech and AI to Revolutionise Education
Zambia is accelerating its education transformation by embracing educational technology (EdTech) and artificial intelligence (AI), officials announced at the EdTech & AI Indaba 2025 in Lusaka on Wednesday.
Speaking at the event, Education Minister Hon. Douglas Syakalima emphasised the role of technology in empowering both learners and teachers while reducing administrative burdens and providing instant feedback.
“Zambia’s learners are bright, our teachers are dedicated, and our communities are resilient. It is this potential that we are determined to unlock through innovative, technology-driven solutions,” said Hon. Syakalima, who is also the Chirundu Member of Parliament.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering inclusive, high-quality education for all, guided by the 2022–2026 strategic plan, and highlighted EdTech and AI as central pillars in the education transformation agenda.
Science and Technology Minister Hon. Felix Mutati added that AI has the potential to free teachers from routine tasks, allowing them to focus on learners, and break barriers of time and distance, making education accessible anywhere.
“AI is a tool that should be used to answer many of our challenges. That’s why government institutions are collaborating to expand ICT access nationwide,” he said.
Ms. Muule Moonga, Edulution Zambia Country Head, praised the Indaba for fostering dialogue between key stakeholders in education and technology, highlighting its role in aligning NGO initiatives with national policy.
The Indaba featured keynote addresses, collaborative roundtables, and actionable policy recommendations, addressing often-overlooked challenges in EdTech.
As Zambia integrates EdTech and AI into classrooms, the government aims to unlock the potential of learners, enhance teaching efficiency, and build an inclusive, skilled nation prepared for the demands of the 21st century.
