Willanda Investments Exceeds USD 36M in Zambia Manufacturing Push
Zambia’s drive to attract foreign direct investment has received a significant boost, with Willanda Investments Limited exceeding its pledged capital injection by investing more than USD 36 million in the manufacturing sector.
Licensed by the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) in 2022, the company specialises in producing high-quality construction materials, including roofing sheets, metal tubes, ribbed channels and PVC ceiling boards. Willanda had originally committed USD 33 million and 150 jobs, but in just two years, the company has invested over USD 36 million and created more than 300 jobs for Zambians.
To recognise this achievement, ZDA Director General Mr Albert Halwampa led a delegation to Willanda’s facility in Lusaka’s Light Industrial Area. He commended the firm’s commitment, describing it as proof of Zambia’s favourable investment climate.
“Since 2021, Zambia has seen a wave of investments, with many citing sound leadership and progressive policies as key motivators. Willanda has walked the talk and is now a vital part of Zambia’s growing economy,” Mr Halwampa said.
He attributed the surge in investor confidence to President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership, noting his role as the nation’s “Chief Investment Marketing Officer” in positioning Zambia as a preferred destination.
Willanda’s Managing Director, Mr Wei Zehua, said the company had benefitted significantly from its ZDA investment licence, citing incentives and support in identifying markets for its products. Company Director Mr Wei Changlong added that modern technology had enabled the firm to deliver top-tier materials while also expanding its footprint, including new branches in Solwezi. The company has also rolled out corporate social responsibility initiatives in the communities where it operates.
The ZDA emphasised that investment licences are being strategically aligned with national development goals to maximise economic impact.
Under the New Dawn Government, the message is clear: Zambia is open for business. Success stories such as Willanda’s not only reflect progress but also signal “prosperity in action” for the nation’s economy.
