IBA Appoints Webster Malido as New Director General

The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has announced the appointment of Mr Webster Malido as its new Director General, effective 15 September 2025.

Mr Malido, who brings more than two decades of experience in journalism, corporate communication, and governance, takes over from the late Mr Guntila Muleya. The Board of Directors expressed confidence in his ability to advance the Authority’s mandate and strengthen its role in regulating Zambia’s broadcasting industry.

Before his appointment, Mr Malido served as Global Head and Senior Director of Corporate Communications at One Acre Fund, where he led climate-focused donor outreach and oversaw communications strategies across multiple country programmes.

He previously held senior roles at Absa Group, where he contributed to the rebranding of Barclays to Absa across 12 African countries, and at Barclays Bank Zambia (now Absa Zambia), where he was Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs.

He also worked as a Managing Partner at Aprio Group and earlier in his career was a journalist and editor at The Post Newspaper. Beyond newsroom leadership, he served as a non-executive director of the Zambia Daily Mail.

Mr Malido holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication with Public Administration from the University of Zambia and a Master of Science in International Business Administration from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.

According to the IBA Board, his tenure will focus on driving digitisation, improving service delivery, strengthening compliance and content monitoring, and ensuring the continued growth of a professional broadcasting sector.

IBA Board Chairperson, Mr Chikosola P. Chuula, said the Board is confident that Mr Malido’s leadership will enhance the Authority’s vision of being an effective and efficient regulator in Zambia’s media landscape.
