Farmers Urged to Procure Inputs Early to Safeguard 2025/26 Season

The Agricultural Climate Action Foundation has called on farmers to prioritise early procurement of agricultural inputs to avoid shortages and ensure a productive farming season.

Speaking in a statement issued on Wednesday, the Foundation’s Executive Director, Dr Oliver Kandela Bulaya, warned that delays in purchasing essential inputs such as seed and fertiliser often result in scarcity, worsened by exports and external market factors.

He cautioned that such conditions frequently give rise to unscrupulous dealers selling substandard products, ultimately affecting farmers’ yields.

“We urge all farmers to remain vigilant and prioritise early procurement of their inputs to avoid last-minute panic buying,” Dr Bulaya stressed.

Looking ahead, he revealed the Foundation’s target of increasing national production levels to 10 million metric tonnes by 2027, noting that achieving this goal depends on farmers accessing quality inputs well in advance.

Dr Bulaya also appealed to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) to support farmers promptly in their procurement processes.

“The journey towards increased production begins now, and securing high-quality inputs early is a crucial step in achieving this target. Together, let us ensure a successful and productive farming season,” he said.
