Zambia, AFCAC Strengthen Partnership to Unlock Tourism Potential
Honourable Rodney Sikumba, MP, Minister of Tourism, today received a courtesy call from the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) delegation, led by its Secretary General, Ms. Adefunke Adeyemi.
The meeting provided a platform to discuss areas of mutual cooperation between the Ministry of Tourism and AFCAC, with a strong focus on the nexus between aviation and tourism as strategic pillars for Africa’s economic growth.
During the discussions, Minister Sikumba emphasized that Zambia is positioning itself as a premier tourism destination, and reliable air connectivity remains a critical enabler in attracting both regional and international visitors.
He underscored Government’s commitment to working closely with aviation stakeholders to improve access to Zambia’s tourist destinations, particularly within the Northern Circuit and emerging heritage sites.
Ms. Adeyemi commended Zambia’s growing profile as a tourism and investment hub and reiterated AFCAC’s commitment to advancing the Yamoussoukro Decision and the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM).
She noted that improved aviation frameworks will not only reduce the cost of travel but also enhance intra-African connectivity, benefiting the tourism sector and related industries.
Both parties agreed to continue engagements aimed at creating synergies in policy, infrastructure development, and capacity building that will foster sustainable growth in tourism while strengthening Africa’s aviation landscape.
