Eagle Extra Draughts Championship Brings Zambian Communities Together

Zambian Breweries has launched an exciting community initiative through its flagship beer, Eagle Extra, inviting fans of the popular draughts board game to test their skills in a thrilling championship. The campaign offers participants the chance to win prizes valued at K250,000 during knock-out tournaments in Lusaka and the Copperbelt.

The official launch brought together draughts enthusiasts, partners, and local heroes, including musician Vinchenzo and entertainers Kelanzo, Charity Katanga, and Vubwi. Consumers challenged the community heroes to matches full of laughter, friendly competition, and excitement, with one lucky Eagle Extra fan walking away with a hamper and a K2,000 voucher. Vinchenzo capped the event with a lively performance at Katungu Market.

The Eagle Extra Draughts Campaign seeks to foster social connection in popular community spaces, pairing the refreshing taste of Eagle Extra with the mental thrill of draughts. The initiative provides both a competitive and social platform, encouraging people to bond over a beloved game.

Thais Cavinatto, Zambian Breweries Country Director, highlighted the campaign’s community focus: “Eagle Extra has become a proud part of our portfolio – a brand that represents quality, authenticity, and accessibility. It resonates with Zambians not only for its taste but because it reflects our strength, resilience, and sense of community.”

Susan Luneta, Head of Marketing at Zambian Breweries, added: “At the heart of Eagle Extra’s story is our loyal consumers, whose passion inspires everything we do. This campaign is our way of giving back, encouraging people to compete, connect, and celebrate — whether for the prizes or the joy of playing.”

The tournament will continue over the coming months, with one day in Lusaka and another on the Copperbelt. Players can register at participating bars, enjoy a cold Eagle Extra, and vie for top positions and exciting rewards.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Arts, Fumba Chama, praised the brewer’s community initiatives: “Thank you for your unwavering support to our communities and their social development. Your involvement does not go unnoticed. Initiatives like this also provide guaranteed market access for our local farmers.”

Ms Cavinatto emphasised responsible drinking, noting that the campaign also aims to promote awareness of alcohol moderation and support a regulated market that guarantees safety and quality.
