President Hichilema Hails Youth as Zambia’s “Heartbeat” at U17 Football Tournament
President Hakainde Hichilema has underscored his administration’s unwavering commitment to sports development and youth empowerment, describing young people as “the heartbeat of Zambia’s future.”
Speaking through Minister of Green Economy and Environment, Hon. Mike Mposha, at the official opening of the Zanaco Grassroots U17 National Football Tournament at Sunset Stadium, the President praised the event as a vital platform for nurturing talent, discipline, unity, and resilience among Zambia’s youth.
“This tournament is more than just football,” President Hichilema said. “It’s about nurturing dreams, instilling values that go beyond the game, and laying the foundation for a bright future for Zambia. By investing in our young players today, we are sowing seeds for a stronger, more prosperous Zambia tomorrow.”
He commended Zanaco PLC for their visionary leadership and close collaboration with government in promoting youth development, stressing that such partnerships are crucial to unlocking the country’s full potential.
Reaffirming his government’s focus on expanding sports infrastructure, improving training programmes, and backing grassroots initiatives, the President said: “Investing in youth is investing in peace, stability, and economic growth.”
Addressing the competing teams, he urged them to play with passion, integrity, and patriotism. “Your dreams are valid, and your efforts will shape the future of Zambia,” he told the young players.
The Zanaco Grassroots U17 National Football Tournament, hosted at Sunset Stadium, unites promising football talent from across the country in a celebration of skill, teamwork, and ambition.
With an enthusiastic declaration of “Let the games begin!”, President Hichilema officially opened the tournament.
