ZACL Appoints Urvesh Desai as New Managing Director to Steer Growth and Transformation
The Board of Zambia Airports Corporation Limited (ZACL) has announced the appointment of Mr Urvesh J. Desai as its new Managing Director, effective 1st September 2025.
Mr Desai brings with him a wealth of experience, having held senior executive positions in Ghana and Zambia across various sectors. Renowned for his expertise in financial strategy, corporate governance, and organisational transformation, his appointment is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing ZACL’s vision of positioning Zambia as a regional aviation hub.
ZACL Board Chairperson Zevyanji Sinkala welcomed the appointment, stating: “Mr Desai joins at a pivotal time for the Corporation. We are confident that under his leadership, ZACL will scale greater heights. His expertise in financial oversight and operational delivery will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our commercial footprint, expand connectivity, and enhance customer experience across all our airports.”
The appointment underscores the Board’s commitment to leadership continuity and alignment with national and regional development goals. With a global outlook and deep understanding of the local context, Mr Desai is set to guide ZACL through its next phase of growth and transformation, including modernising infrastructure and driving sustainable growth in the aviation sector.
Expressing his appreciation, Mr Desai said: “It is an honour to join Zambia Airports Corporation Limited. I look forward to working with the Board, management, and all stakeholders to build on the solid foundation already laid. Together, we will position ZACL not only as a gateway to possibilities, but as a competitive aviation leader in Africa.”
Mr Desai’s leadership comes at a time when ZACL is focused on post-pandemic recovery, optimising airport investments, and diversifying revenue streams, particularly in the area of non-aeronautical income. His strategic vision is expected to unlock new opportunities, strengthen operational resilience, and align airport development with Zambia’s national tourism ambitions.
