Eswatini Applauds Zambia’s Education Reforms as Benchmark Mission Begins

The Kingdom of Eswatini has commended Zambia for its remarkable progress in the education sector, describing it as a model worth replicating across Africa.

Leading a high-level benchmarking delegation to Lusaka, Ms. Nanikie Mnisi, Principal Secretary in Eswatini’s Ministry of Education and Training, praised Zambia’s innovative reforms and institutional frameworks aimed at improving education delivery.

“There is a lot that the Kingdom of Eswatini has to learn from Zambia,” said Ms. Mnisi during a courtesy call on Minister of Education, Hon. Douglas Syakalima, on Tuesday morning. “We are here to understand how key education bodies such as the Teaching Council and the Teaching Commission of Zambia function, so we can replicate the successes back home.”

The Eswatini delegation is in Zambia to explore institutional frameworks that will support the establishment of an Eswatini Council of Educators. The team is scheduled to engage with the Teaching Council of Zambia, Examinations Council of Zambia, and the Zambia Qualifications Authority during their visit.

Hon. Syakalima warmly welcomed the delegation and emphasized the value of African-led collaboration and peer learning. “As Africans, we have the potential to resolve our own challenges. It is only through mutual consultation and benchmarking that we can embrace best practices and strengthen our systems,” he said.

Echoing this sentiment, Permanent Secretary for Education Services, Dr. Kelvin Mambwe, reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to sharing knowledge and innovations with fellow African nations. “Zambia remains ready to support its neighbours in nurturing quality education systems across the continent,” Dr. Mambwe stated.

The visit highlights the growing recognition of Zambia’s education reforms, including the New 2023 Education Curriculum, which focuses on learner-centered approaches, skills development, and education system modernization.
