The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia has expressed deep sorrow following the deaths of two revered media professionals, Mr. Marvin Manengu and Mr. Joiros Chirwa, describing their passing as a great loss to the nation’s media fraternity.

In a heartfelt statement issued by MISA Zambia Chairperson Mrs. Lorraine Chisanga, the organisation extended its condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the late Mr. Manengu and Mr. Chirwa, as well as to the Ministry of Education and Nyimba FM, the institutions the two media men served.

Mr. Marvin Manengu, a seasoned cameraman at the Ministry of Education, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025. A respected figure in government media circles, Mr. Manengu’s illustrious career began at Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS).

He was widely known for his professionalism and unwavering work ethic, having served under all seven Presidents of the Republic of Zambia.

“Mr. Manengu will be remembered for his enduring passion for visual storytelling and his commitment to excellence in media coverage,” read the MISA Zambia statement. “His legacy of dedication and service leaves an indelible mark on Zambia’s media history.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Joiros Chirwa, formerly a presenter at Nyimba FM, passed away on August 2 on the Copperbelt after a long illness. Known for his captivating on-air presence and strong community engagement, Mr. Chirwa was a passionate advocate for media as a tool for public education and empowerment.

“Mr. Chirwa’s voice resonated with many in the community, and his contribution to local broadcasting helped bridge the gap between media and grassroots audiences,” said Mrs. Chisanga.

MISA Zambia noted that the deaths of Mr. Manengu and Mr. Chirwa are a major blow to the media sector, which continues to rely on the values of dedication, integrity, and public service that both men exemplified.

“The nation has lost two gallant media professionals whose work inspired many and elevated the role of the media in national development,” the statement concluded.

MISA Zambia has called on the media fraternity to honour the lives of the two men by continuing to uphold professionalism and passion in their work.
