PICZ and Airtel Zambia Partner to Bring Mobile Insurance to Millions

Professional Insurance Corporation Zambia (PICZ) has officially launched a groundbreaking digital partnership with Airtel Mobile Commerce Zambia (Airtel Money), aimed at expanding insurance accessibility and financial inclusion for millions of Zambians.

The joint distribution launch, held today in Lusaka, was officiated by the Minister of Technology and Science, Hon. Felix Mutati, and attended by high-profile stakeholders including the Deputy Registrar of the Pensions and Insurance Authority, Dr. Brian Manchishi, and executives from the insurance and telecom sectors.

Speaking during the launch, PICZ Managing Director Mr. Moses Siame described the partnership as a transformative step in bridging insurance accessibility gaps. “From today, insurance will no longer be known as complicated or exclusive. It will be simple, mobile, and for everyone,” Mr. Siame said, revealing the company’s ambitious goal of insuring 1 million Zambians by 2027 through Airtel’s mobile money platform.

The partnership allows customers to access and pay for insurance directly from their mobile phones via Airtel Money, removing barriers like paperwork, distance, and limited awareness. With PICZ’s 33 years of experience and an A+ rating for 14 consecutive years, and Airtel’s vast customer base and mobile reach, the collaboration is positioned to redefine how Zambians interact with insurance.

Airtel Money Director Mr. Andrew Chuma emphasized that the collaboration is not just technological but deeply human-centered. “Insurance is not a product for the privileged, it is a safety net. This service places protection directly in the hands of people, whether in Lusaka, Shangombo, or Mwinilunga,” he said.

Mr. Chuma noted that the initiative supports key pillars of Zambia’s 8th National Development Plan and Vision 2030, particularly in promoting financial inclusion, reducing economic vulnerability, and empowering women and youth.

With mobile-based insurance now accessible nationwide wherever Airtel network exists, the initiative promises a new era for inclusive insurance coverage in Zambia, one that is digital, secure, and designed for everyday life.
