ZCCM-IH Posts Record Profit, Declares K529M Dividend
ZCCM Investments Holdings Plc (ZCCM-IH) has announced a record dividend payout of ZMW529 million (US$23 million) for the 2024 financial year, following a transformative year of performance. The announcement was made during the company’s 21st Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Friday, 18 July 2025.
Out of the total dividend, ZMW410 million will go to the Government of the Republic of Zambia through its shareholding in the Industrial Development Corporation (ZMW319 million) and the Ministry of Finance and National Planning (ZMW91 million). The National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) will receive ZMW79 million, while ZMW40 million will be paid out to minority shareholders.
The declared dividend represents 35% of the company’s realised accumulated profits, and is more than double the ZMW243 million declared in 2023. It also marks ZCCM-IH’s tenth consecutive dividend payout, bringing the cumulative total since 2015 to ZMW2.2 billion.
The company’s outstanding performance was largely driven by the successful completion of the Mopani Strategic Equity Transaction, which repositioned Mopani Copper Mines as a financially viable operation. As a result, ZCCM-IH posted a ZMW40 billion profit in 2024, reversing a ZMW4.7 billion loss in 2023.
“2024 was a landmark year for ZCCM-IH and transformative to date. The Group delivered record-breaking performance, driven by exceptional investment returns, sustained royalty inflows, and major restructuring achievements,” said Board Chairperson Mr Phesto Musonda. “Our focus remains on seeking new viable investments in mining and energy, consistent dividend growth, and embedding a high-performance culture.”
Despite the Group’s impressive performance, the Company recorded a loss of ZMW4.38 billion at the standalone level. This was due to a one-off investment expense of ZMW3.86 billion (US$150 million) and finance costs linked to the Mopani restructuring. The move was necessary to eliminate Mopani’s unsustainable US$1.71 billion debt, which ZCCM-IH had previously guaranteed.
ZCCM-IH Chief Executive Officer, Mr Kakenenwa Muyangwa, emphasized confidence in the company’s future, noting that, “Mopani now has a clearer route to profitability, and Kansanshi royalties are providing a predictable income stream, with ZMW3.1 billion (US$126 million) received between April 2023 and December 2024.”
