African Nations Rally in Algiers to Champion Human Dignity and Anti-Corruption Unity
More than 43 African countries gathered in Algiers on Sunday to mark African Anti-Corruption Day under the bold theme, “Promoting Human Dignity in the Fight Against Corruption.” The event, held on the eve of the Annual General Meeting of the Association of African Anti-Corruption Authorities (AAACA), showcased a united front in the continent’s war against corruption.
The commemoration served as a platform for nations to share ideas and strengthen continental collaboration, amid growing calls to restore integrity in governance and protect public resources.
Delivering the keynote address, Professor Mesrati Salima, President of Algeria’s High Authority for Transparency, Prevention and Fight Against Corruption, highlighted Algeria’s ongoing commitment to transparency and ethical leadership. “Africa must stand together in its pursuit of accountable governance. Only through unity can we safeguard human dignity,” she said.
Justice Minister Mr. Lotfi Boudjamaa emphasized the Algerian government’s asset recovery successes, calling on African countries to work together to repatriate stolen wealth and reinvest it in national development.
AAACA President Mr. Khaleid Abdelrahman reinforced the importance of institutional cooperation, noting the association’s drive to promote joint anti-corruption strategies across member states.
A key highlight was the launch of a toll-free anti-corruption hotline, giving Algerians a direct and secure means to report corrupt practices. Algeria also inked two cooperation deals—one with the High Council for Youth to involve young people in anti-corruption campaigns, and another with the Financial Intelligence Unit to bolster efforts against money laundering.
Zambia’s delegation, led by Anti-Corruption Commission Director General Mrs. Daphne Pauline Soko Chabu and Assistant Director for Corruption Prevention Mr. Never Sakala, reaffirmed Zambia’s active role in regional anti-corruption efforts.
The AAACA General Meeting, running from July 21 to 22, is expected to deepen cross-border collaboration, promote innovative anti-graft solutions, and amplify Africa’s shared vision for a corruption-free continent where dignity and justice prevail.
