Zambian Breweries Unveils K2M Boost for 2025 Charity Shield

Zambian Breweries Plc has officially launched the 2025 edition of the Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu Carling Black Label Charity Shield, pledging over K2 million towards the landmark football event, including a K750,000 sponsorship package for the Zambia Premier League (ZPL).

Set to take place from August 9 to 10 at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, the tournament brings together Zambia’s top men’s and women’s football teams under one umbrella, with an expanded two-day format and increased fan engagement through the “Change the Game” campaign.

The event, which honours legendary Zambian footballer and coach Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu, has grown into a major national sports event under the Carling Black Label brand. This year marks the fourth edition under the brand’s headline sponsorship.

Speaking during the launch, ZPL CEO Joseph Chimpampwe hailed the continued support from Zambian Breweries, describing the partnership as pivotal to the growth of local football. “This tournament reflects our commitment to inclusivity and development across all levels of the game. We’re thrilled to include National League teams this year and to continue elevating women’s football,” he said.

Eight teams will participate, with key fixtures including a much-anticipated Copperbelt derby between Power Dynamos and ZESCO United. Women’s matches will also take centre stage, with Konkola Blades Queens, Kansanshi Dynamos Women, ZESCO Ndola Women, and Green Buffaloes Women in action.

Zambian Breweries Legal and Corporate Affairs Director Tawanda Hojane said the Charity Shield represents more than just football: “It’s a celebration of what unites us as a nation—whether it’s sport, music, or community pride.”

The event’s Brand Manager for Mosi and Carling Black Label, Lusungu Ng’uni, emphasized the tournament’s alignment with Carling’s core values. “This platform celebrates hard work, resilience, and character. It’s about pride, purpose, and impact,” she said.

Through the “Change the Game” campaign, fans will have the chance to vote for their preferred starting line-ups by entering codes found under Carling Black Label bottle caps via USSD (*808#) or at www.carlingshieldcup.com.

Fans will also enjoy merchandise exhibitions and historical showcases by Super League clubs, including those not competing in the tournament, further deepening community connections.

Proceeds from the tournament will benefit youth development, healthcare, and community-building programmes across Zambia.

“Supporting football is about more than sport,” added Hojane. “It’s about changing lives and building stronger communities. That’s why this isn’t just a sponsorship—it’s a national movement.”
