Huawei, Gov’t Commit to Cultivating ICT Talent Through ‘Seeds for the Future

Five outstanding tech students from different universities across Zambia have today, July 19, 2025, departed for China to be part of Huawei’s prestigious global Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, Seeds for the Future. This marks the beginning of an intensive one-week experience focused on cutting-edge technology training and cultural exchange.

Though it was first introduced in 2008 in Thailand, Seeds for the future was extended to Zambia in 2015, and at least 100 local students have since visited China under its sponsorship. The initiative reflects Huawei’s ongoing commitment to fostering innovation, bridging the digital divide, and building a more connected and inclusive digital future for all.

Seeds for the Future is Huawei’s longest running CSR initiative whose aim is to nurture ICT talent, promote knowledge transfer, and encourage global collaboration through immersive learning in advanced technologies such as 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Cloud Computing. To date, the program has benefitted over 12,000 students across more than 137 countries, in partnership with over 500 universities worldwide.

During a courtesy call at the Ministry of Technology and Science, the students met with the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Brilliant Habeenzu, who commended Huawei for its continued investment in Zambia’s human capital development.

“We thank Huawei for empowering our youth through innovation and technology,” Dr. Habeenzu said. “As a country, we need such initiatives to optimize sectors like agriculture and mining. I urge the students to absorb as much knowledge as possible and bring back innovative solutions that will benefit Zambia.”

He further emphasized the importance of representing the nation with pride and professionalism, noting that the experience would deepen the students’ leadership skills, technical expertise, and sense of social responsibility.

The students expressed heartfelt gratitude to both the Zambian Government and Huawei for the rare opportunity. “We are honoured and excited to be part of this life-changing experience. We pledge to represent Zambia with excellence and return home ready to contribute meaningfully to the country’s digital transformation,” said Samukhele Ngoma, one of the participants.

Meanwhile, Huawei Public Relations Manager, Louis Mwape said Huawei recognizes the fact that Digital Transformation through ICT trainings and development remain at the core of Zambia’s vision to attain a middle income prosperous nation by 2030.

Mr. Mwape commended the government for their continued commitment and their warm gesture of taking time to encourage and inspire students through Seeds for the Future partnership.

“Students need to be trained and equipped with modern ICT skills and tools because digital transformation remains key to attain Zambia’s 2030 vision, of attaining middle prosperous nation status” he said.
