Global Experts Launch Executive Fundraising Course to Empower African Nonprofits

A groundbreaking fundraising course aimed at transforming how African nonprofits mobilize resources has been launched in Nairobi. The three-day executive-level program, titled Fundraising for African Nonprofits, will be held from August 26 to 28, 2025, at Villa Rosa Kempinski. The initiative responds to the urgent need for smarter and more resilient fundraising strategies as traditional aid shrinks and global donor priorities shift.

The program is led by Impact Africa Consulting Limited (IACL), in strategic collaboration with key international and regional partners: the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University, Bloodlink Foundation, the Centre on African Philanthropy and Social Investment (CAPSI) at Wits Business School, and United Muslim Relief (UMR). The course is tailored for small- and medium-sized nonprofits operating in Africa’s challenging philanthropic environment.

“This training is a strategic correction to a long-standing imbalance,” said Dr. Edward Mungai, Lead Consultant at IACL. “We are not just offering skills; we are building institutional resilience. African nonprofits must move from reaction to strategy, from chasing grants to designing sustainable, data-driven fundraising models.”

The course features a practical curriculum focused on real-world challenges, simulations, peer learning, and case studies. It will culminate in a third-day conference featuring all organizing partners, expert panel discussions, and in-depth regional insights. Participants will gain tools to strengthen internal fundraising systems, align leadership around resource mobilization, and improve donor engagement strategies.

Renowned international experts will lead the course, including Dr. Shariq Siddiqui, Director of the Muslim Philanthropy Initiative at Indiana University; Dr. Abed Ayoub, President and CEO of United Muslim Relief and former CEO of Islamic Relief USA; Joseph Wang’endo, Senior Technical Officer at Africa CDC and Founder of Bloodlink Foundation; and Dr. Edward Mungai from IACL.

Participants will receive a Professional Development Certificate from Indiana University and earn 13 Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) education points. They will also gain access to exclusive fundraising tools, including donor behavior reports, customizable templates, and data-driven strategy guides.

“African nonprofits are often expected to deliver world-class results with limited resources and unstable funding,” said Joseph Wang’endo. “This training addresses that imbalance by giving organizations the tools and structure they need to build reliable, long-term support.”

To expand access, organizers will host a free informational webinar on August 1, 2025. Registration for the course is now open via the Impact Africa Consulting website, with a streamlined application process to preview the curriculum and confirm participation
