Kansanshi Mining PLC Strengthens Workplace Culture with Family Day Initiative

Kansanshi Mining PLC is reinforcing its commitment to employee well-being and workplace safety through its revitalized Family Day initiative, which invites employees’ family members to experience first-hand the mining environment and understand their loved ones’ roles within the company.

In line with Kansanshi’s “people-first” approach, the initiative is designed to boost morale, encourage family support, and enhance overall productivity and safety. The Site Services department recently hosted its edition of Family Day, welcoming 53 family members on-site following the lead of the Mining Operations department.

Visitors were taken on guided tours across various sections of the mine, giving them a clearer understanding of daily operations and the safety protocols that protect workers.

“It’s important to bring families on-site so they can see what their loved ones do,” said Rodney Parker, Site Services Manager. “When families are united and supportive, employees are happier and safer at work. A distracted or stressed worker can pose a safety risk, so we’re building a culture that supports well-being both at work and at home.”

Mary Yusiku Kiyana, whose husband works as a Coordinator in Operations, described the visit as an eye-opening experience. “I never truly understood what my husband meant when he spoke about the mine, until today. Seeing the machines, the safety systems, and teamwork has given me a deeper respect for his work,” she said.

The Family Day initiative complements Kansanshi’s THINK! Safety program, which empowers employees to take ownership of their own safety and that of their peers.

“This isn’t a one-off event,” emphasized Phellon Masaka, Human Resources Business Partner. “We’re building a culture where families are included in our journey. When families feel part of something bigger, our employees are stronger and so is the company.”
