Zambia and Bahamas Mark 50 Years of Diplomatic Relations as High Commissioner Presents Credentials
His Excellency Mr. Kennedy M. Shepande, the newly appointed High Commissioner of the Republic of Zambia to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, has officially presented his Letters of Credence to Her Excellency the Most Honorable Cynthia A. Pratt, Governor General of the Bahamas.
During the formal ceremony, Governor General Pratt warmly welcomed High Commissioner Shepande and congratulated him on his appointment. She highlighted that the diplomatic relationship between Zambia and the Bahamas, established on 19 March 1975, has reached a significant milestone—fifty years of enduring friendship, cooperation, and mutual respect.
The Governor General commended the two nations for their continued support of each other in multilateral forums, including the endorsement of candidates for various international bodies.
She extended her best wishes to Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema and expressed hopes for Zambia’s continued peace, prosperity, and stability.
Governor General Pratt also emphasized the potential for enhanced collaboration in sectors such as economic development, trade, education, and climate resilience. She pointed to the 2024 Memorandum of Understanding signed between the African Union and CARICOM as a pivotal moment for strengthening ties between the Caribbean and African regions.
She encouraged Zambia and the Bahamas to explore joint opportunities in tourism, renewable energy, and sustainable development.
In response, High Commissioner Shepande conveyed warm greetings from President Hichilema and reiterated Zambia’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties. He pledged to strengthen cooperation and foster increased dialogue between the two nations during his tenure.
